Jason Ballard has dedicated his life to working on big problems at the intersection of human civilization and the natural world, most notably as the co-founder and CEO of ICON, the construction technologies company leading the way into the future of human shelter and homebuilding using 3D robotics, software and advanced materials.
In 2018, ICON delivered the first 3D-printed home to receive a building permit in the U.S. and closed a seed round of $9M that included investments from Silicon Valley heavyweights, a renowned international developer and America’s largest homebuilder among others. ICON will break ground in 2019 to deliver 3D-printed homes in the U.S. and the world’s first 3D-printed community in Latin America alongside non-profit partner, New Story.
Ballard has also served as a co-founder and the former CEO and President of TreeHouse, the eco-friendly Home Upgrade Company that normalized sustainable and healthy approaches to home improvement. Prior to co-founding ICON and TreeHouse, Ballard worked at a homeless shelter, in various roles in sustainable building, and as an environmental consultant for ACRT. Ballard is a GLG Social Impact Fellow and served on the Carbon War Room / Rocky Mountain Institute Energy Think Tank. Ballard hails from East Texas and studied conservation biology at Texas A&M University. He is currently enrolled in a masters program in Space Resources at Colorado School of Mines. He resides in Austin, TX with his wife and two children.
