Lead Architect and Head of Housing Product

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team, you will lead the design, development, and realization of groundbreaking architectural designs for building-scale 3D printing. This position will directly report to the CEO and impact the history of human construction, architecture, and the built environment and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention.


As the lead architect and head of housing product at ICON, you will be a leader and direct contributor to the development of entirely new design languages and construction paradigms and you will have the opportunity work with your team to advance humankind’s ability to provide dignified, affordable, resilient, and sustainable shelter to the world. This will be a very complex, multi-disciplinary role with multiple stakeholders. You will lead all phases of the architectural process from conceptual design to detailed technical documents and delivery. Additionally, you will interact with the technology and platform teams to help guide the direction of the core functionality of our technology systems. You will interact regularly with the CEO, especially during critical design and delivery phases.


  • Serve as a member of the Leadership team to lead the architectural process from inception to completion

  • Lead in the development of new architectural approaches and design languages that play to the strength of 3D printing while respecting present technical constraints

  • Lead in the development of high-performance wall systems that maximize human comfort, safety, experience, and sustainability

  • Lead and coordinate client communications and internal housing, technology, and operations teams

  • Lead in the evaluation of ICON’s building systems and building designs against various regulatory and testing regimes

  • Serve as primary interface with outside architectural partners

  • Work with the Finance and Operations teams to help establish a project’s budgeting, scheduling, financial management and contractual requirements while endeavoring to complete projects within the allotted time frame and for the prescribed profit.

  • Lead & coordinate effective 3D design and BIM modeling, and the graphic/digital production of presentations and record documents

  • Work to maximize the environmental and sustainability outcomes for each design and project

  • Leading team integration of building systems, construction details and finishes into the overall design while adhering to building and accessibility codes while overseeing a project’s construction administration and closeout

  • Technical production of drawing sets

  • Management of team members

  • Provide leadership-level contributions on architectural Project Design/Process, Document Production/Coordination, and Construction Administration

  • Act as a spokesperson for ICON with media publications and at events


  • 5 or more years of relevant work experience

  • Professional degree in Architecture

  • Professional Registration

  • Design and technical detailing expertise

  • CADD drafting, modeling, and rendering, including Revit and SketchUp

  • Digital graphic skills, including familiarity with software such as Adobe Creative Suite

  • Ability to sketch and draw by hand

  • Interest in sustainable design, the craft of construction, and humanity’s future

  • Ability to work well with others as a team leader

  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in English- spoken and written

  • Strong conceptual and design skills

  • The ability to develop design options in collaboration with the technology and operations teams

  • The ability to prepare, develop and edit drawings and models

  • Strong organizational skills, able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and budget time

  • Ability to take initiative in response to direction from managers and feedback from peers

  • A flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working

  • Experience leading a team

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.


  • Preferred Qualifications: • LEED Accreditation

  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline

  • 5+ years of professional experience in complex, multi-disciplinary mechanical design and analysis

  • Proactive problem-solving skills such as failure analysis, root cause investigation, and Design of Experiments creation

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication with an emphasis on interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Understanding of software engineering or coding a huge plus
