Principal Software Engineer, BuildOS

ICON is looking for a Principal Software Engineer on the BuildOS team. This engineer will report directly to the VP of the BuildOS organization and provide high-level technical leadership to the team, solving high-value business problems with the software. Working with other engineers and leaders in the team, you will specify architectures and best practices across the team, mentor engineers, and lead solutions for the most challenging technical problems at the company. This role is based at ICON’s Austin, TX campus.



  • Lead implementation of key software technologies in the BuildOS product, a digital construction software platform being developed from the group up.
  • Serve as a trusted expert in the technical aspects of business-critical problem areas.
  • Serve as a trusted expert in industry trends, technologies, and best practices. Implement these technical solutions and practices in the organization as needed.
  • Communicate with business leaders and other technical leaders to formulate and execute solutions to the company’s most challenging problems.
  • Grow the technical competencies of the entire organization through education and mentorship.
  • Assist in recruiting and building the team.



  • 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience as a technical leader across entire engineering organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent technical degree and industry experience.
  • Specific expertise in one or more business-critical technical areas for ICON, such as construction, 3d graphics, computational geometry, large scale cloud computing, web/mobile front ends, machine learning / AI, or controls and automation.
  • Proven track record of technically leading teams that deliver successful software products.



  • Advanced degree in a software or engineering discipline.
  • Experience as a technical leader at a startup.
