ICON is looking for an experienced Controller to lead our accounting teams and support our financial reporting activities. As the Controller at ICON, you’ll manage key projects and build processes and refine processes. Our ideal candidate can prioritize and stay organized in a dynamic start-up environment. A passion for accounting and for building and leading a team is fundamental to this role. This role is based at ICON’s Austin, TX lab and will report to the Chief Financial Officer on ICON’s Finance team.


  • Manage all aspects of accounting; financial statements, general ledger, billing, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, inventory accounting, cost accounting, accounts payable, budgeting, tax compliance, and various special analyses.
  • Support the CFO in engaging the board and audit committee around financial data, trends, and other needed information.
  • Champion the continued build-out of ICON’s accounting team by evaluating and hiring highly-talented, dynamic, and hard-working accounting teammates.
  • Analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate, timely, and usable manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of financial status of specific projects and of the business broadly.
  • Engage with and support department leadership; work on special projects as requested, communicate key financial results, and address financial related questions.
  • Implement business tools to automate, standardize, streamline operational processes, metrics, and financial data that allows for transparency and accessibility.
  • Develop effective systems, accounting policies, and financial controls which maintain the integrity of all financial transactions and reporting while safeguarding cash, inventory, fixed assets and other assets.
  • Manage and support accounting team members; train and develop staff to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.
  • Coordinate with annual financial statement audits; lead interact with outside auditors to support the year-end audit process.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements, and tax filings with the assistance of our external tax consultants.



  • 10+ years of proven accounting experience in manufacturing, construction, oilfield service, technology, or other operations-heavy industry.
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
  • Proficient with Sage Intacct or similar ERP software.
  • Technology savvy with experience overseeing software implementations, add-on applications, and the overall management of an accounting software system.
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Solid experience in developing and implementing processes, policies, and standards.
  • Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team with the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board or other outside partners.
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.



  • Experience with an operationally focused hardware technology business or similar domain knowledge is preferred.
  • Previous exposure with government contracts and its related compliance requirements preferred.
  • Previous experience in a venture-backed or private equity-backed platform is ideal.
