Software Reliability Engineer

ICON is looking for a Software Reliability Engineer to join our Software Engineering team.  Software plays a crucial role in ICON’s mission to revolutionize the construction industry through automation, and the BuildOS team is responsible for concepting and delivering this industry-disrupting software. As the Software Reliability engineer, you will work to ensure the software ecosystem is reliable, repeatable, and robust by empowering our teams with tools and best practices to reduce the time and complexity of delivering products. This role is based in our Austin, TX lab and reports to software engineering leadership.


  • Identifying common patterns and standardizing them into shared frameworks and services.
  • Directing strategic investment in an architectural runway that accelerates application development.
  • Building a Machine Data Pipeline capable of handling terabytes of machine telemetry data.
  • Providing a deployment and service management system supporting operator sites world-wide (and someday, off-world).
  • Working collaboratively to curate code style guides, architectural best practices, and SDLC protocols.


  • Significant professional experience as a software engineer
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience building platforms, micro-services, and APIs
  • Experience managing and mentoring other technical team members on ambitious projects
  • A willingness to accept failure, learn and try again, and an open mind to try solutions that may seem impossible at first
  • A passion for learning new disciplines and gaining a deep understanding of how other professionals do their work
  • An ability to communicate clearly and succinctly both in-person and via written communication


  • Production experience in multiple languages such as Elixir, Node.js, Python, Ruby, or Golang
  • Production experience managing both RDBMS and No-SQL Databases
  • Production experience consuming and providing complex API surface areas using GraphQL, gRPC, or REST
  • DevOps/DevSecOps -- Build automation, GitOps, Infrastructure As Code, Hybrid Cloud deployments, Application Performance Monitoring, and Information Security
  • Applied expertise in SOLID design principles
