Senior Software Engineer, Digital Design & Construction

ICON is looking for an open-minded, structured thinker who loves to solve complex problems and appreciates the value of prototyping and iterating applications over time. As a Senior Software Engineer focusing on Digital Design & Construction at ICON, you will be responsible for developing visualization and planning tools to streamline the residential construction process. This role reports to the VP, Platform and is based in our Austin, TX lab. 



  • Implement new features and products to support our BuildOS design platform.
  • Create tools to support 2D design conversion to 3D visualizations and machine instructions.
  • Collaborate with print construction operators to develop features that improve quality of life throughout a project life cycle.
  • Partner with Architects, Structural Engineers and Building Scientists to convert architectural plans to highly efficient and structurally sound robotic construction projects.



  • Significant professional experience as a software engineer
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Work closely with a wide variety of stakeholders to rapidly analyze and reduce large requirements into small deliverables.
  • Experience building platforms, micro-services, and APIs
  • A willingness to accept failure, learn and try again, and an open mind to try solutions that may seem impossible at first
  • A passion for learning new disciplines and gaining a deep understanding of how other professionals do their work
  • An ability to communicate clearly and succinctly both in-person and via written asynchronous channels



  • Node.js and TypeScript experience, with a functional programming approach, preferred
  • React, Redux, and RxJs experience
  • Experience with tools and services that leverage three-dimensional trigonometry to calculate and analyze shapes and tool paths
  • Experience with SVG, WebGL or Canvas animation
  • Experience with ThreeJS or other browser based 3D rendering engines
  • Experience with parametric modeling frameworks
  • Exposure and interest in the principles of parametric architecture
  • Experience with Autocad, SolidWorks, Revit, Rhino or other CAD software
  • PostgreSQL, GraphQL experience
  • Modern CI/CD workflows: GitHub, Jenkins, Travis, etc.
